THE
PEOPLE'S MILLENNIUM FORESTS : TREES
Scots
pine, Péine albanach:
This
is one of our few native evergreens, which means it keeps its
needles all year long. It produces its seed in a cone and these
seeds are the favourite food of our native red squirrel! This
tree used to be commonly found in Ireland long ago, but it became
very depleted and may even have died out completely as a result
of climate change towards wetter conditions and felling. Replanting
Scots pine in this project will ensure that this tree takes its
rightful place amongst our other native trees.
