THE PEOPLE'S MILLENNIUM FORESTS : TREES

Birch, Beith:

Two types of birch are found in Ireland, downy and silver. The silver birch gets its name from the beautiful silver bark on its trunk, while the downy birch has bark, which is pink in colour. It is a delicate, beautiful tree, with fine branches and small leaves and produces its seed by developing small catkins, which can usually be seen on the tree all year long.
